PRF Gas Solutions has successfully completed another technically demanding operation in the maritime sector, carried out at the Lisnave shipyard in Setúbal, Portugal.

The operation involved the inerting of the tanks of an LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) carrier, an essential stage following the opening of the tanks for maintenance works.

During this type of intervention, the ingress of air and, consequently, oxygen into the tanks makes it necessary to restore a safe inert atmosphere before the vessel can resume operation.

PRF was responsible for the coordination and execution of the nitrogen supply and injection operation, which involved:

• Approximately 300 tonnes of liquid nitrogen;
• Continuous logistics involving tanker trucks and unloading into a buffer tank installed for the operation;
• Controlled vaporisation of the liquid nitrogen into gaseous form through dedicated Gas Marine vaporisers;
• Continuous and controlled nitrogen injection into the vessel’s tanks, with pressure maintained between 5 and 9 bar.

The operation was carried out over four days and was completed once the oxygen levels inside the tanks reached the defined safety parameters.

This project demonstrates PRF Gas Solutions’ experience in delivering technically demanding operations, as well as its ability to manage the planning, logistics coordination and operation of systems involving industrial gases and energy infrastructure.
